Plisados, transparencias, gasas, plumas, drapeados...

This Christmas, we had one of those cinema-at-home evenings I like so much, sometimes watching good movies, sometimes bad ones, but always in good company. And the point is that the movie we watched that night called my attention. Its name is The reluctant debutante (1958), a Vicente Minnelli film that is, as this review says, "one of the most dispensable movies, despite the luxury of its wardrobe and settings, of Minnelli's filmography".

Well, so the movie might be dispensable from the film-lover's point of view (even if I laughed and enjoyed the "naive" atmosphere of some old movies), but having Balmain as the fashion designer for two of its characters makes it a must in a fashionista's movies collection. I couldn't enjoy more how Sheila (Kay Kendall) was wearing with such a grace the creations of the designer, and I felt I had to find some pictures and share them with you.

Pleats, see-throughs, chiffon, feathers, drapes... And Sheila's lively but elegant way of moving that makes them stand out even more. Such an inspiration!

Images from here, here and from the movie itself

I think it's worth getting the movie and some popcorn and having a nice time admiring some glamour and those wonderful dresses by the big Balmain ;)

¡Que tengáis un gran jueves!
Have a great thursday!
