cafe au deux: DIY Upholstering your chairs

El DIY que comparto hoy es uno muy muy barato y ante todo, muy sencillo. Forma parte del tipo de pequeños gestos que uno puede hacer en un piso alquilado para estudiantes, sin apenas dinero, sin apenas tiempo y con un resultado modesto, temporal, pero apañado. Consiste en "retapizar" las sillas de la casa para darles un aire más actual... Si fuera por mi, las habría tirado todas por la ventana y me habría comprado unas Louis Ghost o unas Eames Plastic Side Chair, pero mientras ahorro...
La que véis en la primera foto es la que forré primero, con un trozo de tela de cortina que me sobró. Para el comedor hice lo mismo, pero con otro trozo de tela que tenía en casa. Así pintaba el comedor antes...

This DIY is a very very cheap and simple one. It's one of those small changes you can do to your student rented appartment without spending any money, very little time and an "ok", temporary result. It consists on "upholstering" your chairs to make them look a bit more modern. If I could, i'd just throw those chairs through the window and get some Louis Ghost or Eames Plastic Side Chairs, but just while I get the money for that...
The one on the image above is the first one I did, with a piece of fabric I had left from the curtains. I did the same for the dining room, but with another piece I had at home. This is how the dining looked before...

MATERIALES / MATERIALS

· Tijeras / Scissors

· Destornillador / Screwdriver

· Tela (para las cuatro sillas tenía un trozo de 1,40x1,90 metros y me sobró un poco / Fabric (for four chairs I had a 1,40x1,90meters piece and I had more than enough)

PASOS / STEPS

1. Lo primero es medir y recortar un rectángulo de tela unos 10-15cm más grande que el asiento de la silla.
1. The first thing is to measure and cut a rectangle about 10-15 cm bigger than the seat of the chair.

2. El "cojín" de la silla va cogido a la estructura de madera por tornillos, en mi caso tres. Desatornilla y sepáralo.

2. The "cushion" of the chair is attatched to the wooden structure with screws. Unscrew them and put it apart.

3. Envuelve el cojín con la tela con cuidado y vuelve a colocarlo en su sitio en la silla. Vuelve a atornillarlo a la estructura, pero antes de hacerlo tira bien por debajo para que se quede tirante y ajustadita. Esta parte es la más delicada, pero sigue siendo fácil. Si se queda colgando mucha tela por debajo puedes recortarla con las tijeras.

3. Wrap the "cushion" with the fabric you cut and put it back to its original place on the chair. Screw it to the structure, but before that, make sure the fabric's well adapted to the shape of the chair by pulling from underneath. This is the most delicate part, but still easy. If there's too much fabric hanging under the chair, just cut it with the scissors.
